A Need for Health Reform

Health conditions
Sicknesses are
everywhere. We see people suffer from many different kinds of diseases,
physically and mentally, slight or severe. We often have slight illnesses such
as fever, headache, body pains, diarrhea, dizziness, flu, to mention a few. We experience
these health problems almost all throughout our lifetime. There
are certain diseases a person can have that are serious and it needs to be taken
into consideration, and some health problems are not. Nowadays, cancer, diabetes, asthma,
heart and lung problems, etc. are some of the health problems almost every
family is suffering. And many of us have suffered these diseases that can
affect everybody else around us.
Mrs. White says, “If we
are sick, we impose a weary tax upon our friends, and unfit ourselves for
discharging our duties to our families and to our neighbors. And when premature
death is the result of
our violation of nature’s law, we bring sorrow and suffering to others; we deprive our neighbors of the help we ought to render them in living; we rob our families of the comfort and help we might render them, and rob God of the service He claims of us to advance His glory.” Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 20.

The most precious treasure and the plan for our health
“Health is a treasure. Of
all temporal possessions, it is the most precious. Wealth, learning, and honor
are dearly purchased at the loss of the vigor of health. None of these can
secure happiness, if health is lacking. It is a terrible sin to abuse the
health that God has given us; such abuses enfeeble us for life, and make us
losers, even if we gain by such means any amount of education."
"God has bountifully
provided for the sustenance and happiness of all His creatures; if His laws
were never violated, if all acted in harmony with the divine will, health,
peace, and happiness, instead of misery and continual evil, would be the
result.” Counsels on diet and Food, p.20

How to keep the body healthy
“To keep the body in a
healthy condition, in order that all parts of the living machinery may act
harmoniously, should be a study of our life.”
“The majority of diseases
which the human family have been and still are suffering under, they have
created by ignorance of their own organic laws. They seem indifferent in regard
to the matter of health, and work perseveringly to tear themselves to pieces,
and when broken down and debilitated in body and mind, send for the doctor and
drug themselves to death.”
The Health Reformer, October, 1866
“Knowledge must be gained
in regard to how to eat, and drink, and dress so as to preserve health.
Sickness is caused by violating the laws of health; it is the result of violating
nature’s law. Our first duty, one which we owe to God, to ourselves, and to our
fellow men, is to obey the laws of God, which include the laws of health.” Counsels on diet and Food, p.20

Your choice, my choice
Diseases are around us.
Either we or our family members suffer. Everybody else doesn’t want to
experience any of these diseases. But whatever we have experienced comes
because of our own choice. To be healthy is a personal choice. It’s not the
choice of others while we neglect what we ought to do. To be healthy is not a
chance but a choice just like to be unhealthy is your choice and my choice. As
what Mrs. White says that we need to know by personal study to gain knowledge
on how to keep healthy.
Hosea 4:6
